Nano Banana

A flagship model for generating and editing images. It creates pictures from text and (its main strength) precisely edits uploaded photos from a description while keeping everything else intact.

What it can do

  • ✓Editing by description: replacing objects, background, clothing, hairstyle or style while keeping the rest (its strongest side).
  • ✓Character consistency: the same character in different scenes and poses.
  • ✓Reference merging: combines two or three images into one scene (product + background + model).
  • ✓Understands complex natural language instructions: several edits in one request.
  • ✓Text-to-image: photorealism, product shots, portraits; text in the image is more stable than in most models.

How to write a prompt

Describe the SCENE in full sentences rather than a list of tags: the model understands natural language. Structure: subject → action → environment → lighting → style → angle/lens. For EDITING, attach a photo and describe ONLY the change and what to keep ("replace the background with a sunset, keep the person and the light on them"). Refine iteratively: in the next message ask to fix a detail.

A prompt that works

Photo portrait of a ginger cat in a grey knitted sweater sitting by a window in soft morning light, warm blurred background, photorealism, 85mm lens, shallow depth of field

Avoid this

“a nice picture of a cat”

Too general: the model will make up the scene, light and style on its own, and the result will be random. Add a subject, environment, lighting, style and angle.

Examples

Reference merging (product + scene)

(attach a product photo and an interior photo) Place this bottle on the wooden shelf from the second photo, soft studio lighting, realistic shadows and reflections

Character consistency

(attach a portrait) The same person in a business suit against a modern office, keep the face and hairstyle

Precise editing

(attach a photo) Replace the daytime background with a warm sunset, keep the person and the lighting on them

Variants within the group

  • Nano Banana Pro, Maximum quality and detail for final results and complex scenes.
  • Nano Banana 2.1, An update of Nano Banana 2 (October 2026): cleaner text, holds the character better across a series of edits, elongated formats up to 8:1.
  • Nano Banana 2, Newer and faster, a good balance of speed and quality for iterations.
  • Nano Banana, The basic fast option for drafts and quickly finding an idea.

Tips

  • →Write the prompt as a description of a scene, not a set of words: it is more precise.
  • →For editing, attach a sharp photo; describe only the change and what to keep.
  • →Build a complex picture in iterations: generate, then fix one detail at a time.
