Seedream: The AI Image Generator from ByteDance (2026)

What Seedream from ByteDance is: versions 3, 4, 4.5, 5 Lite and 5 Pro, text in the frame, multi-reference, up to 4K. Prompts that work and how to use it in Pixyn.

Seedream is a family of image generation models from ByteDance (the company behind TikTok). Its main feature: the model understands English and Chinese at the same time and neatly places readable text right into the picture, and the senior versions output up to 4K. In Pixyn Seedream works right in the browser or in Telegram, and new accounts get welcome tokens to try it.

TL;DR

  • What it is: a text-to-image and edit model from ByteDance. Strong in photorealism, text inside the frame and assembling a scene from several references.
  • Versions in Pixyn: Seedream 3, 4, 4.5, 5 Lite (a fast lightweight version) and 5 Pro (the flagship of the fifth generation).
  • Main strengths: bilingual EN/ZH text in the frame, multi-reference Edit, up to 4K, a photorealistic "lively" look without the typical AI plastic.
  • Where to use it: marketplace cards, banners and posters with lettering, lifestyle and catalog scenes, a lookbook from several photos.

What Seedream is and who is behind it

Seedream is developed by the ByteDance Seed team, the research division of ByteDance, the same company that owns TikTok. It is a Chinese line of text-to-image models originally tuned for two tasks where Western competitors have traditionally been weaker: correct text inside the image and bilingualism (Chinese plus English in one prompt).

Unlike classic diffusion "only for the picture", the recent Seedream versions combine generation and editing in one model: the same engine both draws from scratch and edits an uploaded image from a text description.

If you work with video, ByteDance has a related line, Seedance (image-to-video and text-to-video). It is a different tool for a different task; see the Seedance AI video guide. Seedream is about the still picture.

Seedream versions in Pixyn: how they differ

ByteDance released Seedream in waves, and Pixyn has several generations at once. This is convenient, because drafts and finals often need different models.

Seedream 3: the basic bilingual one

The first version of the line worth taking seriously. It understands English and Chinese. According to ByteDance's technical report, text rendering accuracy in the frame exceeds 94% for English and Chinese, including small print. A good choice for simple tasks where you do not need the maximum resolution.

Seedream 4: generation and editing combined

The autumn 2025 release, ByteDance's flagship at the time. The main difference from 3: the resolution was raised to 4K, generation and edit mode were merged into one architecture, and work with several reference images (multi-reference) was added. Photorealism grew noticeably compared with v3.

Seedream 4.5: the proven workhorse

The late 2025 release. According to ByteDance, compared with 4.0 it improved prompt following, consistency and aesthetics. It supports 4K, multi-reference (up to 6 images as input according to ByteDance) while holding the same subjects across frames (character consistency), and stronger rendering of dense text and typography. Seedream 5 Lite: fast and light

The lightweight version of the fifth generation (early 2026). It focuses on speed and low cost while supporting several resolution steps up to 4K and a wide range of aspect ratios. The logic of use is simple: Lite for drafts and a mass batch of variants, and the final frame is refined on a senior version or in Edit mode.

Seedream 5 Pro: the flagship of the fifth generation

Released in July 2026: deep prompt understanding, readable text in the frame in 14 languages and editing from up to 10 references, with a 2K ceiling. A separate breakdown: Seedream 5 Pro.

Seedream strengths

Text inside the picture in two languages

This is the historical signature of the line. Seedream places English and Chinese neatly into the frame: lettering on posters, banners and packaging looks readable rather than the usual AI "letter soup". For short lines (1 to 10 words) the result is stable.

Multi-reference Edit: assembling a scene from several photos

The Edit mode of the senior versions takes several references and assembles one new scene from them by a text description: "take the person from photo 1, the clothes from photo 2, the background from photo 3". The model holds the same subjects across frames, which is useful for series and a lookbook. It is a compositor, not a spot retoucher.

A photorealistic "lively" look

Seedream outputs photorealism without the "AI sourness" typical of many models, the plastic, overexposed look. Skin, fabric and lighting look natural, which matters for catalog and lifestyle.

High resolution

Up to 4K on the senior versions: enough for print and large banners. On family, everyday and catalog content the filter rarely gets in the way of harmless prompts.

How to use Seedream in Pixyn

  1. Sign up in 30 seconds via email, Telegram or Google: create an account. New accounts get welcome tokens to try it without a card.
  2. Open the Studio, the main generation screen.
  3. Choose the Seedream version you need (for drafts, 5 Lite; for the final with text, 5 Pro or 4.5).
  4. Write a prompt and set the aspect ratio and the resolution.
  5. Press "Generate": the result appears in the feed, where you can download it or send it for edits (Edit).

How to write a prompt for Seedream

The model understands long descriptive prose well, so write in detail, like a brief for a photographer: what is in the frame, the light, the angle, the style, the background. 30 to 100 words is optimal.

The rule for text in the frame: keep the lettering in its native language and in quotes. Short lines work more reliably than long ones.

Working example 1: a marketplace product card

Professional product photo of white running sneakers on a clean light-grey
background, soft studio lighting, sharp detail of mesh and rubber sole,
slight top-down angle, no people, no harsh shadows, e-commerce catalog style,
high detail, 4K.

A clean catalog shot without extra details, exactly what a marketplace card needs. The background is even, the object is in focus, nothing is "invented".

Working example 2: a banner with lettering

Minimalist promo banner, pastel beige background, a single ceramic coffee
cup with steam, soft morning light, large clean headline text "NEW SEASON"
in elegant serif at the top, plenty of empty space for layout, advertising
poster style.

A short Latin headline plus room for layout. For a longer heading, leave the field empty and add the text as a separate layer in an editor.

Anti-prompt: what NOT to write

These phrases either trigger the filter or make the result worse, so remove them in advance:

sexy hot model, sensual lingerie, intimate bedroom atmosphere,
tiny dense paragraph of text, ultra-detailed five fingers extreme close-up,
celebrity face, very long caption inside the image

Why:

  • "sexy / sensual / intimate / lingerie" trigger the content filter, and a refusal is likely. Replace them with an editorial frame: "editorial fashion, soft fabric, tasteful".
  • A dense paragraph of text and a very long caption fall apart: keep the lettering short.
  • Focusing on "five fingers in extreme close-up" provokes anatomy artifacts, so do not center the frame on hands.
  • Celebrity faces lead to refusals on some models.

Scenarios: where Seedream is really useful

Marketplace cards

You need dozens of clean product photos on an even background with a visible texture of the fabric or material. Seedream gives a catalog look without plastic, and 5 Lite lets you quickly generate a batch of variants, with the final refined on a senior version.

Banners and posters with text

Seedream places short Latin headlines neatly: for promo banners, covers, posters.

Lifestyle and catalog scenes

Object scenes, interiors, "a hand holding a smartphone", "a table with coffee and a laptop by the window": here Seedream's photorealism works at full strength.

A lookbook and series through Edit

One model in several looks: upload her photo and the wardrobe items, and Edit mode assembles each look while holding the same subject across frames. For a series task this is much faster than drawing each frame anew.

If the task is large-scale (dozens or hundreds of cards from one template), it is convenient to automate it with a visual pipeline: set it up once and run it in one click. See the Workflow page.

What it costs in tokens

Seedream: from 3 tokens per generation; the upper bound within the family is higher and depends on the version and the resolution. The exact price of a run is visible in the Studio before generation, and packs are on the pricing page.

FAQ

How is Seedream 4.5 different from 5 Lite?

4.5 is the proven workhorse: high quality, 4K, multi-reference Edit, a more pronounced photorealism than Lite. 5 Lite is a lightweight fast version for drafts and mass batches. The logic: drafts and variant search on Lite, the final on 4.5 or 5 Pro.

What is the maximum resolution?

The senior versions (4, 4.5 and 5 Lite) go up to 4K; 5 Pro goes up to 2K.

How many references can I upload to Edit?

According to ByteDance, Seedream 4.5 Edit takes up to 6 reference images and assembles one scene from them, holding subjects across frames; 5 Pro takes up to 10. In practice 2 or 3 key references with a clear role each (product, background, style) give the most controllable result.

Can I use the results commercially?

Yes: for product photos, banners and advertising. Plans and terms are on the pricing page.

What should I take for video if I liked Seedream?

ByteDance's related video line is Seedance (text-to-video and image-to-video). It is a separate tool; see the Seedance AI video guide.
