Qwen Image: AI Image Generator Review and Versions (2026)

What Qwen Image from Alibaba is, its versions and edit models, and text in the frame in English and Chinese. Prompts that work and how to use it in Pixyn.

#ai models#ai image generation#qwen image#alibaba#text in image

Qwen Image is an image generation model from Alibaba (the Qwen team, also known as 通义 / Tongyi). Its signature feature: the model neatly places readable text right into the picture, especially in English and Chinese, and it can not only draw from scratch but also edit uploaded images from a text description. In Pixyn, Qwen Image works right in the browser or in Telegram, and new accounts get welcome tokens to try it.

TL;DR

  • What it is: a text-to-image and edit model from Alibaba. Strong at rendering text inside the frame (English, Chinese) and at precise image editing.
  • Versions in Pixyn: Qwen Image 2 and Qwen Image 2 Pro (the new generation), plus the edit models Qwen Image Edit 2511 and Qwen Image Max Edit for changing ready pictures.
  • Main strengths: neat text in the frame in English and Chinese (posters, packaging, banners), high prompt adherence (the model does not "make things up"), editing that keeps the font and style, multi-reference to hold one character across frames.
  • Where to use it: marketplace product cards with lettering, banners and posters with text, infographics, editing ready photos (replacing objects, text, background).

What Qwen Image is and who is behind it

Qwen Image is developed by the Qwen team at Alibaba, the same group that makes the Qwen chat models and the 通义 (Tongyi) lineup. It is an open model: the original Qwen Image was released in August 2025 under the Apache 2.0 license (technical report: arXiv:2508.02324), which is rare for an image generator of this level.

Architecturally, the original Qwen Image is a 20-billion-parameter MMDiT (Multimodal Diffusion Transformer). It was tuned for two tasks where Western competitors have traditionally been weaker: correct text inside the image and working with Chinese on a par with English. On public benchmarks (GenEval, DPG, OneIG-Bench) the model showed strong results among open models at the time of release.

In short: Qwen Image is a tool about the still picture and, above all, about the text in it. That is its strong side and the reason to keep it in your set separately from the "artistic" models.

Qwen Image versions in Pixyn: how they differ

Alibaba released Qwen Image in waves: generation separately, editing separately, then a unified generation. Pixyn has several variants for different tasks.

Qwen Image 2 and Qwen Image 2 Pro: the new unified generation

The next generation of Qwen Image. The main point is that it is a unified model: generation from scratch, editing and image "understanding" are combined in one engine. In practice this gives steadier prompt following and one stack for both generation and edits. It is especially strong on Chinese scenes and hieroglyphic text in the frame. Alibaba does not disclose all the technical specs, so judge by the result in the studio. Qwen Image 2 Pro also has an edit mode for changing an uploaded picture. The model page in Pixyn: Qwen Image.

Qwen Image Edit 2511: editing ready photos

The edit version (released at the end of 2025). It takes an uploaded image and changes it from text: replace or remove an object, change a pose, transfer a style, rewrite the lettering in the frame while keeping the original font, size and color. This version strengthened character consistency across frames, support for several people in a scene and compatibility with community LoRAs. Pixyn also has a LoRA variant of it.

Qwen Image Max Edit: the top edit tier

The senior edit variant of the Qwen family. Compared with the basic Edit 2511 it gives higher-quality edits and supports several changes in one instruction at once. This is the version for final commercial edits, when maximum accuracy is needed. The logic is simple: the basic Edit 2511 for everyday edits, Max Edit when you need the best quality and complex multi-step instructions.

Qwen Image strengths

Text inside the picture (English and Chinese)

This is the historical signature of the lineup. Qwen Image places English and Chinese lettering in the frame neatly and readably: on posters, packaging, banners, in infographics. The model holds the typography, the placement and the fit with the background, rather than producing the usual AI "letter soup". For short lines the result is stable.

High prompt adherence: the model does not drift

Qwen Image follows the prompt well and does not improvise unless asked. If you describe the scene in technically precise terms, the model does not pull the result into an unexpected aesthetic. This is a plus for predictable commercial work, where you need exactly the frame you ordered rather than a "creative interpretation".

Editing that keeps the style

The edit versions change a ready image from text while keeping the original font, size, color and layout of the text: you can rewrite a caption without redrawing the whole banner. The same goes for replacing and removing objects, changing a pose and transferring a style. It is a full editor, not just a generator "from scratch".

Multi-reference and character consistency

The senior edit models accept several reference images and hold the same subject across frames. This is useful for series and for tasks where one person or product must look the same in different pictures.

How to use Qwen Image in Pixyn

  1. Sign up in 30 seconds via email, Telegram or Google: create an account. New accounts get welcome tokens to try the models.
  2. Open the Studio, the main generation screen.
  3. Choose the Qwen Image model of the type you need: Qwen Image 2 or 2 Pro to generate from scratch, Edit 2511 or Max Edit to change an uploaded image.
  4. Write a prompt in English or another language and set the aspect ratio. In Pixyn, Qwen Image works in 1:1, 4:3, 3:4, 16:9 and 9:16.
  5. Press "Generate": the result appears in the feed, where you can download it or send it for edits.

How to write a prompt for Qwen Image

The model understands long descriptive prose well and follows it precisely, so write in detail and specifically, like a brief: what is in the frame, the light, the angle, the style, the background. Since Qwen Image is not inclined to "make things up", the more precise the description, the closer the result is to your idea.

The rule for text in the frame: keep the lettering in quotes and in its native language. English text in English, Chinese text in hieroglyphs. Short lines come out most reliably.

Working example 1: a banner with an English headline

Minimalist promo banner, soft pastel background, a single ceramic coffee cup
with steam, soft morning light, large clean headline text "NEW SEASON" in
elegant serif at the top, plenty of empty space for layout, advertising
poster style, sharp typography.

A short Latin headline plus room for layout. Qwen will place the text neatly: this is its core task.

Working example 2: a marketplace product card

Professional product photo of white running sneakers on a clean light-grey
background, soft studio lighting, sharp detail of mesh and rubber sole,
slight top-down angle, no people, no harsh shadows, e-commerce catalog style,
high detail.

A clean catalog shot with nothing extra, exactly what a marketplace listing needs. If the product must carry readable lettering (a label, a text logo), Qwen Image handles it better than many generators.

Anti-prompt: what NOT to write

These phrases either trigger the filter or make the result worse, so remove them in advance:

sexy hot model, sensual lingerie, intimate atmosphere,
long caption in a third language inside the image, tiny dense paragraph of text,
ultra-detailed five fingers extreme close-up, anime waifu style,
celebrity face

Why:

  • "sexy / sensual / intimate / lingerie" trigger the filter, and a refusal is likely. Replace them with an editorial frame: "editorial fashion, soft fabric, tasteful".
  • A long caption and a dense paragraph of text fall apart: keep lettering short, in English or Chinese, or add longer text as a separate layer.
  • Focusing on "five fingers in extreme close-up" provokes anatomy artifacts, so do not center the frame on hands.
  • "anime waifu style" and similar niche tags are handled unevenly by Qwen Image; for a pronounced stylization take a dedicated model.
  • Celebrity faces lead to refusals on some models.

Scenarios: where Qwen Image is really useful

Marketplace cards with text

When a card needs readable lettering (the name, a feature, an accent line), Qwen Image places it more neatly than many generators. Latin and Chinese lettering comes out consistently.

Banners, posters and infographics

Promo banners, covers, posters, simple infographics with headlines: this is Qwen Image's core zone. Short Latin text sits cleanly, and the model respects the room left for layout.

Editing ready images with Edit

Replace an object in a photo, remove something extra, change the lettering on packaging while keeping the font, transfer a style: Edit 2511 and Max Edit do all of this from a text description, without a manual editor. For series with one character, multi-reference helps.

Predictable commercial generation

Where it matters to get exactly the frame you ordered without the model's "creative initiative", Qwen Image's high prompt adherence is what you want. Describe it precisely and you get something close to the description.

If the task is large-scale (dozens or hundreds of cards or banners from one template), it is convenient to automate it with a visual pipeline: set it up once and run it in one click. See how it works on the Workflow page.

What it costs in tokens

Qwen: from 2 tokens per image; Recraft: from 2. Qwen is one of the cheapest image models in the catalog.

The studio shows the exact charge before you run it, so check against it rather than the article: the catalog gets updated. Pack contents are on the pricing page.

FAQ

Who developed Qwen Image?

The Qwen team at Alibaba (the 通义 / Tongyi lineup). The original model was released as open source in August 2025 under the Apache 2.0 license.

How is Qwen Image Edit different from basic generation?

Qwen Image 2 and 2 Pro draw a picture from scratch from text. The edit versions (2511, Max Edit, and the edit mode of 2 Pro) take a ready image and change it from a description: replacing objects, text, a pose, transferring a style, while keeping the original font and layout.

What is the difference between Edit 2511 and Max Edit?

Edit 2511 is the everyday edit version for precise changes to a ready frame. Max Edit is the senior variant: higher edit quality and support for several changes in one instruction. The logic: everyday edits on 2511, maximum quality and complex multi-step edits on Max Edit.

Which aspect ratios does Qwen Image support?

In Pixyn: 1:1, 4:3, 3:4, 16:9 and 9:16. The exact resolution depends on the chosen version, and the current values are visible in the studio before generation.

Can I use the results commercially?

Yes: for product photos, banners, posters and advertising. Plans and terms are on the pricing page.
