How a "working" SDXL prompt is built

An ideal prompt has 6 slots, no more:

[subject] [action/pose] [style/setting] [lighting] [camera/lens] [quality tags]

An example:

A young woman with curly red hair, sitting on a wooden bench

subject is the main object (precisely described), action is what it does or how it stands, style/setting is where, lighting is the type of light, camera is the optics and angle, tags are the final modifiers (photorealistic, 4k, sharp, cinematic).

The negative prompt goes in a separate field, not in the main prompt:

blurry, low quality, deformed hands, extra fingers, watermark,
text overlay, signature, cartoon, plastic skin, oversaturated

In Pixyn the negative prompt is a separate field in the Studio for the models that accept it, so you do not need to embed it into the main prompt.

Settings in Pixyn: what to set in the Studio

The Stable Diffusion group in the Pixyn catalog has three models, and their settings differ:

• Stable Diffusion v1.5 draws from text. Settings: image size (square, 4:3 and 16:9 in portrait and landscape), steps (25 by default), guidance scale (7.5 by default: lower is more creative, higher is stricter to the prompt), negative prompt, seed, plus LoRAs and embeddings.
• SDXL Lightning works from a source image (image-to-image): strength sets how far the result may move from the source, and steps are 1, 2, 4 or 8, which is why it is fast.
• Stable Diffusion 3 also works from a source image: strength, steps (28 by default), guidance scale (5 by default) and a negative prompt.

For a seed: leave it empty (random) for variety, or fix it (for example 42) for repeatability while tuning.

What it costs in tokens

Stable Diffusion: from 2 tokens per image; FLUX: from 2; DALL·E: from 2. Running one prompt through three models costs about six tokens, which is a cheap way to see which of them understood you best.

FAQ

1. Why Stable Diffusion XL and not SD 3? Pixyn has both. SDXL is more "artistic", SD 3 is more "disciplined" (it understands the prompt better). For creative tasks, SDXL; for strict following of a brief, SD 3 or DALL-E 3.

2. How is SDXL different from FLUX? SDXL is the older generation (2023), FLUX is the newer standard of photorealism (2024 to 2025). FLUX is better at photos, SDXL is better at artistic styles and faster in a "many drafts quickly" workflow. A comparison: Midjourney vs FLUX vs DALL-E 2026.

3. Will the prompts work in other models such as FLUX or DALL-E? Most of them will, with light adjustments. A negative prompt is a Stable Diffusion field; for DALL-E 3, phrase exclusions inside the main prompt, for example "without text".

4. Which model is fastest for testing prompts? SDXL Lightning: it makes an image in 1 to 8 steps.
